Dr. Mashima is Associate Professor and Graduate Chair in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She received her PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Cincinnati. She served as Chief of the Speech Pathology section at Tripler Army Medical Center from 1991 to 2015. During this time, she coordinated working groups to develop clinical guidance for cognitive rehabilitation for military service members and veterans with mild traumatic brain injury. Her service to ASHA includes the Joint Committee on Interprofessional Relations Between the American Psychological Association (APA) and ASHA, Continuing Education Board, Ad Hoc Committee on Telepractice in Speech-Language Pathology, Working Group on Telepractice, Multicultural Issues Board, and Coordinating Committee for the Vice-President for Planning. She served on the State of Hawaiʻi Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology, and as President of the Hawaiʻi Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Barbara received her Master’s degree in audiology from the University of Virginia and her Doctoral degree from the University of Connecticut with an emphasis in Childhood Hearing Impairment.
She was the Audiology Manager at a hospital in Chicago for 11 years, took a 4-year “break” to get her Ph.D., then worked at the University of Louisiana Health Sciences Center for 18 years, where she was Director of their Au.D. Program, before moving to Hawaiʻi.
In Hawaiʻi, she worked full-time for the Department of the Navy as an Occupational Audiologist for 8 years, and now works part-time for the University of Hawaiʻi Communication Sciences Department and Clinic, and one day a week at Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children.
The DOE has contracted her services through the University of Hawaiʻi.
She has experience with and enjoys working with patients of all ages. She started the first newborn hearing screening program in the State of Illinois, and worked with many other hospitals to get their newborn hearing screening programs working. She has started two hearing aid dispensing programs, provided audiology services in a skilled nursing facility and took the lead in authoring and securing the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program for the University of Louisiana Health Sciences Center.
She believes her biggest attribute is that she is a boots-on-the-ground person. She does not just talk about theory about things; she does them on location with real patients and graduate Au.D. and SLP students.

Dr. Guo is an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa John A. Burns School of Medicine. She received her Master's degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Portland State University and her PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington. Dr. Guo's research focuses on language acquisition, assessment, and intervention in multilingual populations with communication disorders. Previous and current research projects focus on clinical discourse between clinicians and children with language disorders and parent coaching to support bilingual children with language disorders. Her service to ASHA includes the ASHA Journal Editorial Board and the Professional Development Committee for SIG 17.

Ms. Brittany Evans is an Instructor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (UHCSD). She serves as an acute speech-language pathologist at Queen’s Medical Center Health – West Oʻahu. Ms. Evans received her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She specializes in diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, swallowing, voice, and cognitive-communication disorders related to neurologic diseases in the adult population. She has 7 years of experience in the acute care setting – specializing in evaluation and treatment of dysphagia. She is certified in VitalStim Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and competent in performing Modified Barium Swallowing Studies.

Mrs. Maemori is an Instructor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (UHCSD). She holds a Master of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She has an extensive background in the diagnosis and treatment of various speech, language, and communication disorders. Maemori has a professional interest in working with individuals with autism, phonological disorders, and language disorders. She retired from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Education, where she provided direct services and coordinated the speech services in the Honolulu district.

Ms. Magbual is an Instructor at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Communication Sciences and Disorders Department (UHCSD). She also works as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) with the Hawai'i Department of Education and in a local private practice. She earned her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Her professional interests include speech-language assessment and evaluation, including school-based eligibility determination, expressive and receptive language, speech sound disorders, and working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders.
