All students graduating from the UHM CSD Master of Science program are expected to present academic and clinical credentials that will earn endorsement by the department for application to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) for a certificate of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology. All students preparing for entry to or entering the UHM CSD graduate program must fulfill specified prerequisite courses (see the table below) typically available through undergraduate CSD programs. These courses or their equivalencies should be fulfilled prior to graduate admission. The minimum GPA for all prerequisite courses is 3.0
The UHM CSD department does not offer an undergraduate program; however, we do offer coursework in CSD through our online Speech Pathology and Audiology Prerequisite Program (SPAPP). Students who have not taken all prerequisite courses will need to enroll in a program which offers the appropriate coursework such as the online SPAPP program through the UHM CSD department.
Some of the general required courses (e.g., psychology, biological science, physical science, phonetics, and statistics) may be taken at UHM either as an undergraduate student or as a Post-Baccalaureate Unclassified (PBU) student. Credits from institutions other than UHM or taken as a PBU student at the UHM can be considered for transfer, where Policies Governing Transfer of Credits from other institutions established by the UHM Graduate school may apply.
